Fort Worth Search - Local Business Listings - City Guides - FortWorth.allaboutlocal.com Located only 30 miles apart between downtowns, Fort Worth and Dallas are decidedly different. There is inevitably friendly (and sometimes not-so-friendly) competition between the two destinations. Sharing the limelight with the “Big D” could be a bit daunting; however, Fort Worth has found its niche. The city takes pride in a more laid-back ambiance laced with authentic Old West flavors and New West progress. Fort Worth was a once stop along the historic Chisholm Trail; the route of legendary cattle drives headed north to meat markets. When the railroad came to town in 1876, the Fort Worth Stockyards became a premier cattle wholesale center for the U.S. and earned the nickname “Cowtown.”

Although the city nurtures its Western heritage, it is now the headquarters for prominent U.S. companies like: Alcon, American Airlines, Bell Helicopter Textron, Bombay Company, Tandy RadioShack, Pier One Imports and Dickies. And, Fort Worth is at the heart of West Texas oil and natural gas resources.

Business and leisure travelers arrive in Fort Worth at the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW). From DFW, it is 17.5 miles to downtown Fort Worth. Ground transportation is available by taxi, shuttle and rental cars. Trinity Railway Express (TRE) Airport Service links downtown with the CentrePort/DFW Airport Station, Monday through Saturday. The TRE and T-Bus are also helpful for getting around Fort Worth if you do not have a car.
